A farm Shop..... really?
On rereading a newsletter the other day my mind was propelled into thought when looking at one of the images it contained. One pictures was of a traditional small holding type farm and the other a modern factory farming complex. Obviously we relate heavily to the picture of the small holding and it made me think of the relationships between farm shops and farm types.
Spring is always a busy time as we begin to sow the seeds for the crops which will see us over the following two seasons. From 2008 we began planting a much bigger range of produce. Growing In small batches and trying new vegetable types and varieties some of which we never grown before. We also introduced variations on the crops we usually grow such as different colours. Examples would include yellow & purple dwarf beans .
We have grown courgette's, marrows and pumpkins for many years now but we have increased the different types we grow. We also continue to experiment each year with different varieties some of them new to the market and others being old ones which we have rediscovered as little gems. As well as colours we try out varieties that grow in various sizes. Such as standard sized aubergines and a miniature version. Cucumbers in all sorts of sizes and colours and sweet peppers from small to giant.
Some of our trials that have become part of our standard growing list include kohl rabi and sorrel.
